We had Isaac's weight checked today because of his showing at his 9 month appointment. He was 30 inches long, and up to 18 lb 7.5 oz. Woohoo, he gained weight! BOO HOO, his weight dropped into the 5%.
Our Dr. looked at him and said he appears to be a healthy, happy baby, but that she would strongly recommend the blood draws at his one year check up {or before if we want} to check for other diseases {Celiac disease or thyroid problems for example}.
To be honest, I really don't feel there is anything wrong with him. He's just a tall and skinny kid who is so active that he burns off too many of the calories he consumes. Seriously, while we were waiting for the weight check, we did laps around the waiting area. Ideally, I'd like to decline the blood draws and tests, but on the slight chance that there might actually be something wrong, I don't want it to go undiagnosed forever either. What to do, what to do?
This should be a case of Mother knows best, right?

Even though there is probably nothing wrong. I would still get it checked out. Better to be safe than sorry right!?
I still say get a 2nd opinion. Jessica was in the 5th %ile at that age, too, and her dr. said she was just fine considering her genealogy.
or you could do the blood draws at his one year appointment to put your mind at ease, but i don't think any earlier is necessary.
and give him a little extra butter on his toast or something ;-)
