Would you believe that I have searched high and low for a snow suit for Isaac with no luck? I didn't want it too little-kiddie {with Winnie the Pooh, trucks, bears, etc.}, I wanted something that was quick and easy to put on, functional, etc. I ended up purchasing him just a pair of snow pants to wear with his winter coat {which, are NOT all that convenient}. Since Isaac spends a great deal of time with my parents, they dug out this vintage snow suit {worn by my little brother circa 1992}, and it fits the mold! Plus, he's pretty cute in it.
Oh yes, the stocking hat is vintage also - it was Auntie Jennifer's...circa..???

Cookie Containers
I'm in desperate need of cookie containers. I've been in need for over two years, and I continue to use my Rubbermaid Take-a-long disposable 9x13 containers with taped over broken slits in the bottom. Those are the largest containers I own - they get used for everything.
I should have asked for cookie containers for Christmas. :) Any suggestions? I'd probably prefer a container that's more multipurpose than a cookie jar, and I can't even find a decent example of what I'm looking for in my brief internet search. Bah.

Bummer
For Christmas, I gave myself a chip fracture in my elbow.
Isaac and I were doing diaper laundry at my parent's house - we headed into the basement to dry them, I lost my footing, we tumbled down the stairs, and consequently I chip fractured my elbow. We ended up making a late night visit to the ER for the diagnosis. Happily, as the range of motion in my elbow is still very good, I will not not need a cast, but have to follow a treatment plan and will have to be gentle with it for a long while.
Already today, though, my poor elbow has been bumped more times than I can count {both because of my own doing and from other people.}.
And most importantly, Isaac is doing ok - he had a little bit of a sore foot this morning {from where I smashed his foot between the stairs/wall/me, but Daddy adjusted it and he is doing much better. At least he's walking on it now {even if it IS with a limp}. :(

Soup-er
Hi blog readers!
I am on the search for a couple of great soup recipes. I'm hosting Blake's family for a soup supper on Christmas night {or on the weekend if the weather turns sour}. As I know that I'll be super busy in the days leading up to this event, I'm hoping for something that reheats awesomely. I want to make it on Wednesday morning before heading out for the day. Ideally, I'd like something simple, hearty, and probably not too spicy for the 1,3, and 8 year old kids. Any ideas/recipes?
Lola, this should be right up your alley!

Snow days
Now that I've been back to work for two days, I have a much deeper appreciation for the crappy weather last week - it led to a very low key and restful weekend. Plus, I got to spend loads of time with Blake and our little guy. We're working on trying to get him to like the snow. Don't worry, after all of the outdoor festivities and picture taking, he promptly cried about being out in the snow! Such a divo.

Snow removal
14 months
Isaac turned 14 months old yesterday. *sigh* Looking at his pictures, it's obvious he's not a little baby anymore - he's definitely become a lot more fun - talking, walking, putting beginner puzzles together, drawing, and whining {a lot}. Ok, the whining part isn't that fun, but the rest of it is. :)

Patty cake
Isaac has learned a new part to his patty cake {pat-a-cake? what do you say?} rhyme. He walks around our house doing this much of the time. In fact, I think he knows the whole first part now - up to "marking it with a B." Note to self - take video and share! :)

When I was younger, I thought it was funny to de-pants my siblings. Ok, I still think it's kind of funny. :)
I never got a de-pantsing quite as good as this one though. :)

Black eye
Isaac officially has his first black eye, and not even from a fist fight!
He likes to help push carts whenever we go shopping. This morning at Staples, he was helping me pick out hanging file folders. He was still attempting to push the cart as I held it in place. Suddenly, he spotted some brightly colored post-it notes. As he took off in their direction, he didn't realize that the back wheel of the cart stuck out in his path. He tripped over {actually, practically flipped over} it, and pounded his head into the floor. He cried for a long time, and now, he has a pretty decent shiner to show for it. It doesn't show up very well in my pictures, but I hope you can see it!

Wasteful packaging
Apparently one of Blake's medical supply companies has not gotten the memo about trying to be more green {more efficient, less waste}. They shipped our reception desk sign stand like this:
It's even funnier that the stand arrived in the giant box, because the sign itself {which is larger than the stand} arrived in an envelope! Nice work.

13 Months
Happy 13 months to Isaac!
I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've missed a lot of his growing up this month. He's been spending good portions of nearly every day with Grandma as we work on getting Blake's business up and running.
I can say that I've noticed the big steps he has made this month - I just missed out on the process. :(
1. He's running
2. Understanding more Chinese than Mommy now
3. Saying four official words: Mama, Dada, Uh oh, Wow
4. Nodding his head appropriately when asked questions. It has come in handy especially for determining whether or not he is ready for his nap.
5. Tugs on my arm, brings me a diaper, or sniffs whenever he has pooped. When he does the arm tug, he's about ready to poop, so we try to get him to the toilet before it happens. He also only does the arm tug at home, so we haven't gotten much practice in.
6. Officially has 8 teeth now. Two of his molars FINALLY poked through, thank the Good Lord!
7. Makes many sounds: Moo for cows, vroom sounds for anything with an engine, sort of a putter sound for a horse {you know, what they do after the neigh?}, ooh ooh ah ah for a monkey.
8. Understands and carries out simple tasks, like pointing out pictures in his picture books, identifying pictures of family members, finding toys we ask him to find, bringing us things, throwing things in the garbage can
9. Knows that going outside means he needs to put on his coat and shoes - so he brings them to you if the word "outside" is mentioned.
Cute.
I'm just so amazed at how much he can comprehend already. It's hard to believe that one year ago, I was still just trying to figure out this newborn, who by the way, is still more cute than ever!

Just wanted to share some photos of Blake's office transformation so far. When everything's all done, I'll give you all a virtual tour.
Until then, we're working our butts off - Isaac has been "helping" whenever possible. Today, he ate a piece of the ceiling tile....*sigh*

Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween from our little tiger. Isaac had a great time trick-or-treating tonight {Daddy is pretty pumped about the candy}. One lady answered the door dressed as an Ape. Our little man didn't know what to think. He accepted her candy, stared at her until she closed the door, and then made monkey sounds as we walked away. :) Here's Isaac's second Halloween in pictures {see his first Halloween here}:

Repurpose
This beauty of a cabinet used to look lovely in the bathroom of our condo. When we moved into our house, I couldn't find the right place for it, so it has been looking pretty inside a closet in the basement. Thank goodness for Blake's office. I'm going to clean it up and put it in the bathroom! We actually have some unsightly plumbing that cannot be removed, {some genius thought it would be a good idea to have a urinal in there, the urinal was removed, probably with the person who wanted it, but all of the piping remained. We were able to cover up most of it, but the main water line is still there} so, our little cabinet is going to sit in front of it. It couldn't be more perfect as we'll need a small storage space anyway, and most of the decor in the bathroom will already be white.
I'm pumped - too bad the bathroom is going to be a PITA to paint - even the CEILING has to be painted. It looks like a dungeon in there now. Hopefully, with a little cost-friendly facelift, it'll look charming.

Crock pot Tuesdays
Tuesday have become crock pot Tuesdays around here. As we're gone all day and get home late {around 7 p.m. or later}, it's still nice to be able to come home, have a warm dinner, and still have Isaac in bed by 8:30.
I've been on the search for new recipes {aside from our tried and true ones} and found this goody last week. It was SOOOO delicious!
Crock Pot Chicken Supreme
3 slices bacon
6 boneless chicken breast halves {I only used three, and also still used three slices of bacon! ;-)}
10 oz. can cream of chicken soup
1/2 c. chicken broth
sliced mushrooms {as many or as few as you want!}
diced onion {as much as you like}
swiss cheese slices
Cook bacon until crisp, drain on paper towels, crumble and set aside in fridge.
In bacon drippings, cook chicken over medium heat {3-5 minutes} until light brown, turning once. Place in crock pot. Top with mushrooms and onions. In skillet, heat soup and broth until warm. Pour over chicken and veggies. Cover and cook 4-5 hours on low. Top chicken with cheese and sprinkle with bacon, then cook another 10-15 minutes on high or until cheese is melted.
FYI, I cheated and used the frozen, ready to cook chicken breasts. I also ended up cooking mine for something like 9 hours. I think, because I used the frozen chicken breasts that are injected with the extra juice/solution, my chicken still turned out great. Otherwise, I'm positive it would have been really dried out after all those hours of cookin'.

Something to think about
We need your help, again readers. :)
As part of the decor in our office waiting area, we are going to have a quote run the length of one wall in the patient seating area. Blake has picked a few of his favorites from B.J. Palmer, the developer of Chiropractic. Here's where you come in. Please tell us which quote you like best, and wouldn't mind reading every time you visit the office. The poll is to the right. Thanks!
1. "The power that made the body heals the body."
2. "Every organ in your body is connected to the one under your hat."
3. "Following the path of least resistance is what makes rivers and men crooked."
4. "An obstacle is what you see when you take your eyes off the goal."

That hurts
I've been having some pretty crappy luck lately.
First, I got bit by a dog - it took a bite at my leg as I climbed back into my car. We were just dropping something we borrowed off at a friend's house. Apparently, we should have kept it for ourselves! This is the bite about 10 days after the fact. That darn bite still hurts!
Then, I fell off my chair while teaching a piano lesson on Wednesday. How embarrassing, right? I don't even really know what happened, except that I fell, my arm hit the corner of the piano bench, and my butt pounded on the floor. My butt is bruised too, but I won't share that picture with you. :)

One year stats
For those of you keeping track on how Isaac has grown, he had his one year appointment this past Monday {10/19}.
The good news is, his weight has leveled off. He decided he likes the 5% and is staying there. Here are his stats:
19 lb. 4 oz.
32 inches
At birth, he was:
7lb 14 oz.
21.5 inches
Crazy how much he has grown in a year! He's also learning to tolerate hats, which he has always hated in the past. We have to trick him into thinking he's going outside, and then let him stick his tongue out with Daddy. It's a slow process, but I think by winter he'll be wearing that hat like a pro!

I'll post pictures soon! :)

Closed to through traffic
By the end of the week, I'm pretty sure our entry will be completely blocked. We will greet any UPS/FED-EX/USPS people through the garage. We're getting so many deliveries for Blake's office, that we are emptying our front stoop daily. We're too lazy to bring them into the basement for storage because they're just going to be moved out in less than two weeks. That, and we're never home during the day to look at the clutter, so it hasn't gotten on our nerves yet.
Here's what our entry currently looks like:
I have many updates to give - I hope to get to them by Thursday at the latest.
And, to anyone who wants to help. We're going to paint as early as Friday, and no later than this Saturday. So, if you want to help, give us a shout out. We'd be happy to have you!

Moley, Moley, Moley {Part 2}
I think moles must run in the family. Remember Isaac's mole?? He must take after his uncle and Godfather, Brian. I just hope that Isaac's doesn't start moving around like Brian's did!

Boom goes the dynamite
For some reason, I've resurrected that saying and have been using it frequently. Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

Lights!
We're trying to spruce up the boring fluorescent lighting that Blake's office will have by adding a little pizazz in the waiting area. Our plan: install pendant lighting over the reception desk. We're actually talking just over the main diagonal corner. So, we're going to need two lights here. This is where you come in.
Poll #1 asks which base color we should use for our lighting. The stem of the light. Brushed nickel or black? I don't have photos, but I figure this is pretty basic.
Poll #2 allows you to choose from the below options for our shade style/color.
If you have differing opinions from any of these, please feel free to leave a comment. I've also posted again the carpet/reception desk oak/counter photo so you can see that color scheme as well as our paint colors. For what it's worth, the majority of the reception area will be the largest color {Rye}. We are toying with the idea one wall {the one behind the reception desk} being an accent wall in the Mayan Red. Which leads me to poll #3. One color, or accent wall?

Exciting
Parts of Blake's office computer system are starting to arrive at our house. With this new arrival, we are giddy about spending some money. Obviously, I will make sure we save as many dollars and cents as possible, but that won't stop us from acting like two kids in a candy store - it's so fun to look at stuff, you know?
